SCHEDULE ‘ME-TIME’: The demands of life can leave us feeling extremely guilty for stealing a little time to ourselves, yet taking time to yourself is so important as it allows us to unwind, recharge and bring stress levels down.

POSITIVE ATTITUDE: Research has shown that a positive attitude is linked with happiness, emotional balance and stronger immune systems. It can provide families and workplaces with a culture that is supportive, productive and motivating.

SET YOURSELF GOALS: Breaking down aspirations into manageable steps provides direction, focus, and motivation. Realistic goals increase success chances and as you achieve each milestone they will build confidence and self-image.

DAILY EXERCISE: Physical activity has huge potential to enhance mental well-being. Even 10 minutes of brisk walking helps our mental alertness, energy, self-esteem, memory, stress and anxiety

REWARDS: Rewarding yourself is important for two reasons. Firstly it helps you feel good about what you’ve achieved and secondly it motivates us to work towards the next goal knowing that at the end, we will recieve another reward.

SUPPORT NETWORKS: People want to help, but they can’t help if they don’t know you’re suffering or struggling. Asking for help directly removes uncertainties, enables kindness and creates emotional closeness due to working together toward a goal.

RELAXATION: Research has shown that relaxation such as meditation, yoga or deep breathing can reduce stress and muscle tension, improve brain function and memory, boost the immuse system and help alleviate depression and anxiety.

FOOD AND DRINK: Don’t allow yourself to be consumed with hard dieting. Dieters regularly report self-blame “i messed up my diet again”, irritability, anxiety and depression. Instead focus on healthier eating choices, but do not limit yourself everyday.

CONNECT WITH OTHER PEOPLE. GOOD RELATIONSHIPS ARE IMPORTANT FOR YOUR MENTAL WELLBEING.
